Chapter2 Synthesis and Characterization of Amide Bonded Polymeric Stationary Phases

چکیده
Novel polymeric stationary phases based on amberlite XAD-4 has been synthesized. Functionalized polymers are obtained by reactions, which involves Friedel-Crafts acetylation, oxidation and chloroformoylation of the resin. These functionalized polymers were reacted with chiral selector viz. R(+)-1-phenylethylamine and amino acid viz. methyl ester L-histidine dihydrochloride via Schotten Baumann reaction in weakly alkaline condition to yield m-[(+)-a-methyl benzyl carboxamide] XAD-4 and m-[2-carbomoyl-3-(4-imidazolyl) methyl propanoate] XAD-4, respectively. The reactions were investigated in an attempt to find conditions under which the best results could be achieved, and the resulting products were characterized by FT-IR spectra, elemental analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
